Raymond Davis shot dead two Pakistani men on a motorcycle on a Lahore street on January 27 after they allegedly brandished weapons. The American has said he fired in self-defence because he thought the two were robbers. Ever since his arrest, a constant stream of media reports and rumours about Davis's identity and nature of work have provoked a surge in anti-American hostility and spawned a wave of conspiracy theories.
