The abhorrent practice of manual scavenging persists across India despite it being a legal offence. Sewage workers risk their health and lives to earn a pittance in this profession. Seema Sirohi, mother of a 22-year-old who died last Diwali while cleaning a Delhi Jal Board sewage pipe, opens up about the troubling and shameful reality of this profession. He was asphyxiated by the toxic gases in the pipe. And he wasn't even wearing a basic mask.
