Supreme Court Backs EVMs, Blasts Ballot Box Backers

As the country voted in the second phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha election - the Supreme Court has given Electronic Voting Machines, or EVMs, a big vote of confidence. A two-judge bench rejected petitions seeking 100 per cent verification of votes cast on EVMs using the VVPAT. In fact Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Sanjiv Khanna said it would be a setback to electoral reforms. He also said that blindly distrusting a system can lead to unwarranted suspicions. Are EVM doubters fighting a battle, that is unnecessary and can undo years of electoral reforms, and why - that is what we ask.
