India is still a country where 194.4 million people are undernourished. This is 14.5% of the total population, according to Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). The Global Hunger Index 2018 ranks India at 103 out of 119 countries and states that India is suffering from serious problem of hunger and malnutrition. To fight these stark reality, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently pledged for a Kuposhan Mukt Bharat or Malnutrition-free India by 2022 and has asked every citizen to help in achieving this goal. Moreover, the government to strengthen its goal has also decided to mark September as the 'Poshan' (nutrition) Month with a goal to improve the nutritional status of children up to 6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
