As Parliament's monsoon session got down to business today it started raining controversies - an incensed Mayawati has handed her resignation from the Rajya Sabha to the Vice President. She said if she doesn't have the right to speak about Dalits and rising atrocities against them she has no right to sit in the house. Was this a legitimate reaction or, as some have put it, an attempt to stay politically relevant? Mayawati's Dalit support base is heavily eroded and her position as the country's pre-eminent Dalit leader is in peril.
