On Reality Check, we look at the menace of stray cattle in Uttar Pradesh and check whether it has worsened since the Yogi Adityanath government came to power. We look at the BJP's politics of 'gau raksha', where stringent laws passed by the state government to criminalise cattle slaughter coupled with rising attacks by cow vigilantes, have led farmers to abandon hundreds of cattle. While the PM has just promised a new stray cow policy, on this episode, we investigate what the state government has done in the past five years and if the issue of stray cattle is a major concern for UP voters.
