Congress' Lingayat Move: Divisive Or Masterstroke?
A war of words has broken out in Karnataka after the sudden decision by the Congress government to recommend separate religious status for Lingayats, the influential community that so far was considered a core vote bank of the BJP. But letters that NDTV has accessed show the double standards of the BJP and the Congress on the issue. On Reality Check, we study a petition signed by BJP's BS Yeddyurappa in 2013 demanding separate religion status for the Lingayats, and a letter from the Congress-led UPA rejecting the demand as illogical.
