Almost 2 months after 11 men convicted of raping Bilkis Bano and brutally murdering her family members during the 2002 Gujarat riots shockingly walked out of prison, it has emerged that the Gujarat state government and the Centre ignored multiple red flags and objections raised to approve their release. The Centre cleared the release within two weeks of Gujarat asking for its opinion. Both the CBI and the Special CBI judge had opposed the release. NDTV tracks the paper trail that led to the release of the rape and murder convicts.
