Arif, the man from Amethi who became famous for his friendship with a Sarus crane, is in headlines again. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department captured the Sarus and released it in the Samaspur Bird Sanctuary in Raebareli. Arif had rescued the bird after which a bond developed between the two. The Sarus used to follow Arif everywhere he went. Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav met Arif earlier this month to witness for himself the bond between man and the bird. The Sarus Crane is Uttar Pradesh's state bird, and the Forest Department ordered that it be resettled in a bird sanctuary. Although Arif was heartbroken, he helped the Forest Officials capture the bird and release it in Samaspur. (Video credit: PTI)
