Sahil Wakode Death: Caste Discrimination Or Misuse Of SC/ST Act?
Four days after IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode died by suicide, a deeply contested debate has erupted over caste discrimination, the SC/ST Act and institutional accountability. Sahil's parents have alleged prolonged caste-based harassment and demanded the arrest of Professor Suryanarayana Doolla, who has been booked under the SC/ST Act and for alleged abetment to suicide. IIT Bombay faculty, however, have backed Doolla and said he followed institutional procedure. As the Crime Branch investigates, the central questions remain: What happened to Sahil, were his allegations of discrimination addressed, and what role did the examination incident play?
