Asle Toje, the deputy leader of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, told NDTV that the risk of nuclear weapon use in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war is high and efforts must be expedited to end the war as soon as possible. Terming it as the gravest threat to world peace after the Cuban missile crisis, Asle Toje said India can play an important role in the global effort to end the war. In a roundtable conference held in India International Centre in Delhi today, political leaders, scholars and former diplomats argued that peace and development were interconnected. The chairman of India Centre Foundation, Vibhav K Upadhyay, said India needs an alternative model of development to address challenges like poverty and hunger.
