DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi died at a Chennai hospital on Tuesday. M Karunanidhi was a political stalwart, an icon of Dravidian politics. A five-time chief minister and a 13-time legislator, he never lost an election. There is an unseemly controversy now about where he should be buried. The request was that he should be buried next to his political mentor Annadurai on Marina beach but the state government has disallowed that. Meanwhile, national mourning has been declared on Wednesday. The flag will be flown at half mast.
