Tamil Nadu celebrates the harvest festival of Pongal. Today is the first day of the Tamil month of Thai, believed to usher in prosperity. People worship the Sun God for a bountiful harvest. It's a four-day festival that began on Wednesday with Bhogi. Tomorrow is Maatu Pongal, a day dedicated to cattle and the day after Kaanum Pongal, the grand finale. This day also marks the begining of the taming of the bull festival Jallikattu.
