The medical fraternity has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of free COVID-19 vaccines to states. The centre will buy 75% of the vaccines produced by companies, and private hospitals will continue to buy the remaining 25% and vaccinate those willing to pay for their jabs. They can't, however, charge more than Rs 150 as service charge per dose over the fixed price of the vaccine. Many private hospitals, welcoming the announcement, have also called for downward revision of coronavirus vaccine prices for the private players.
