In the midst of yet another heated, animated session of Parliament, there was one bill that was passed that had all party support. Spearheaded by HRD Minister Kapil Sibal and renowned lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar - the Copyright Act Amendment Bill 2012 ensures that songwriters, composers and musicians working in the Indian film industry can earn royalty for the use of their work. What's more, they retain the copyright to their work, which, until now used to be with Producers who used to cash in on this often at the cost of artistes who often struggled to make ends meet.
