Odisha: Forest Officials Apply Archimedes' Principle To Rescue Elephant

Videos of a dramatic rescue operation in Odisha’s Keonjhar have gone viral after officials used Archimedes’ principle to save an elephant that had fallen into a well. The principle, discovered by Greek mathematician Archimedes, states that an object submerged in a fluid experiences an upward force equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces. The videos were shared by the Divisional Forest Officer of Keonjhar, who said teams from the forest, fire and police departments jointly carried out the rescue. The male elephant had accidentally fallen into a functioning well in the densely populated Banajodi area of the Sadar range, prompting a coordinated rescue effort by the authorities.
