Nirmal Purja | Elite Mountaineer Nirmal 'Nims' Purja Killed In Avalanche On PoK Peak
Legendary mountaineer Nirmal "Nimsdai" Purja has died in a tragic avalanche on Broad Peak, the world's 12th-highest mountain, located in the Karakoram range in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Purja and five other climbers had been missing since the avalanche struck on Friday before Elite Exped confirmed that none of them survived. Known globally for completing all 14 peaks above 8,000 metres in a record six months and six days under his historic Project Possible, Nims Purja transformed modern mountaineering and inspired millions through his achievements. A former Gurkha and Special Boat Service (SBS) soldier, Purja was also part of the first Nepali team to summit K2 in winter. His legacy lives on through his extraordinary contributions to the climbing world.
