Uttar Pradesh is pushing for a population control law, even though it has the largest number of legislators who themselves don't appear to have followed family planning norms. Of the 304 BJP MLAs in the state, 152 have between three and eight children. Despite this, they are talking about population control. The BJP's key ally in UP, Apna Dal, and its MLA Hariram, who has eight children, tweeted a message on family planning. The UP Law Commission has drafted the population bill that will stop those with more than two children from fighting panchayat election or getting government benefits.
