Hours after the government issued new restrictions on depositing old notes, it clarified saying people will have to explain only deposits of over Rs 5,000 in old notes if done more than once. Meanwhile, the government is mulling an immediate action on hundreds of political parties that enjoy tax exemption but do not contest elections. Government believes these parties to be conduits for black money. The government, sources say, is willing to bring down the exemption for anonymous donations from Rs 20,000 to Rs 2,000, in accordance with the Election Commission's proposal.
