CBI must have investigative independence, says BJP ahead of Lokpal meet

How much control the Lokpal should have over the CBI remains the major and perhaps the only sticking point now in the Lokpal debate. BJP's leader of opposition Arun Jaitley says his party will insist on the CBI director being appointed independently and administrative control of the CBI coming under the Lokpal. But the BJP wants investigative autonomy for the CBI and is open to the proposal that the prosecution and investigative wings be separated. Interestingly, Jaitley said he thought the CBI's objections to its closure reports being approved by the Lokpal had some merit.
