Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reiterated India's decision to impose a ban on single-use plastic, declaring "time has come for even the world to say goodbye to single-use plastic". Speaking at a world climate change crisis meeting in Delhi, the Prime Minister also said that human empowerment was linked to the environment and called on world leaders to recognise that people had to come together and work together in order to combat climate change. In its most sweeping measure yet, the Centre is set to impose a nationwide ban on six plastic items by October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. These six items include plastic bags, cups, plates, small bottles, straws and certain types of sachets.
