India's infamous kidney bazaar is back in focus after the arrest of a top Chennai nephrologist accused of running a countrywide kidney racket. The 1994 Transplantation of Human Organs Act legalises 'brain death' and permits removal of organs from brain-dead cadavers- people whose organs are still functioning. But there are not enough cadaver organ donations, forcing patients to resort to illegal means like paying money to buy organs from living healthy people.
