Punjab Organises Craft Mela To Revive Cultural Heritage

The ongoing Heritage Festival and Crafts Mela organised by the State Department of Cultural Affairs and Tourism in Patiala has been a major attraction for people from all walks of life. Prominent personalities including Kuchipudi dancer and Padma Bhushan awardee Raja Radha Reddy, noted tabla player and Padma Bhushan awardee Ustad Zakir Hussain and Sitar player Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan performed at the Heritage Festival which ended on February 28. The crafts mela saw the participation of more than 150 craftsmen who are selling metalwork, traditional jewellery, textiles and pottery products at Sheesh Mahal. The government intends to create awareness about the rich cultural heritage of Punjab and the country among the youth of the state. Besides this, the event is also providing a level playing field for the artists who have come not only from parts of India but also abroad.
