Padma Shri Deepa Malik, President, Paralympic India, talked about her journey of becoming the first Indian woman para athlete, at the launch of the initiative Samarth by Hyundai, in partnership with NDTV. Ms Malik highlighted that it took seven decades for the first medal to be won by a female para athlete, whereas, the first medal among the men came in 1972, with Murlikant Petkar winning gold in freestyle swimming.
