NDTV's Uma Sudhir Gets 2017 Chameli Devi Jain Award

NDTV's Uma Sudhir has been awarded the prestigious Chameli Devi Jain award for 2017. The Media Foundation which gives the award said Ms Sudhir was chosen for the recognition for her impressive body of work covering vital issues relating to politics, children, women, human rights, agriculture, rural distress and minority issues. "Her incisive and analytical reports help create awareness of ground realities in various states. The jurors were impressed with the amount of work put into her stories through travelling, talking to people, examining underlying issues and finally conveying the stories with a humane touch". The award will be presented on March 9 at the India International Centre in the national capital. It will be followed by the B G Verghese Memorial Lecture, to be delivered by Justice Ajit Prakash Shah on the topic 'Chief Justice: First Among Equal'. Named after Chameli Devi Jain, a freedom fighter and home maker,the award has been recognising women journalists for the past 38 years for upholding standards of excellence through a sustained body of work.
