Initial Information Was Insufficient, Says Meghalaya Mine Rescue Chief

For the past 10 days, at least 15 miners are trapped inside an illegal "rat hole" coal mine in East Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya water in a flooded mine. Even though the state government has also now claimed that time is running out, it also admits there can be more than 15 miners inside. The 1st battalion of NDRF has led the search and rescue operation. The man leading it, the commandant SK Sastri spoke exclusively to NDTV and explained the extreme challenges in this operation.
