From a heart patient to a marathon runner. That is the story of not just one individual but dozens who have undergone a specialised Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Hyderabad's ESIC Hospital and Medical College, meant for those covered under the government's employee state insurance scheme. The protocol that has been developed is now being sought to be emulated at CMC Vellore, as also top corporate hospitals. Uma Sudhir met with the doctor and patients, some of who were told they would survive only if they went underwent a heart transplant, but are now feeling healthy, fit enough to run a marathon.
