Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Replies To GST Debate In Rajya Sabha

The landmark Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a big step closer to becoming a reality with the Rajya Sabha clearing the key legislation on Wednesday. Hailed as the biggest tax reform since Independence, the one-nation-one-tax regime will eventually convert 29 states into a unified market. In his reply to the seven-hour debate, Mr Jaitley sought to allay fears over a high rate of tax if not capped in GST Bill. "Rates under GST must come down. We will strive for a reasonable rate," Mr Jaitley said.
