Fighting to save the gharials

The gharial, a species of crocodile is perhaps making its last stand. They used to be in thousands, but now just a couple of hundred remain in India. While the Uttar Pradesh forest department and the World Wide Fund for nature (WWF) are helping with a captive breeding programme, the gharial's fate may ultimately rest in the hands of a new ally, the locals.
