Electoral Bonds To Be Stopped Immediately, Says Supreme Court

In a historic judgment, the Supreme Court today struck down the electoral bonds scheme on the grounds that it violates the citizens' right to information. The Chief Justice said the scheme was unconstitutional and arbitrary and may lead to a quid pro quo arrangement between political parties and donors. The Congress and Left welcomed the verdict saying they were vindicated, while the BJP said the scheme was an attempt to bring more transparency.
