Former President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday underscored the importance of dissent in a democracy, and said the peaceful protests sweeping the country will rejuvenate democracy. Complacency enables authoritarian tendencies to gain ground," news agency Press Trust of India quoted him as saying.
