One child was killed in a slum area of west Delhi yesterday allegedly while 500 shanties were demolished during an anti-encroachment drive by the Railway police. Residents of the slum in west Delhi's Shakur Basti allege their homes were demolished without any warning or notice, leaving hundreds of them without any shelter and exposed to biting cold. The girl, they claim, died when a piece of furniture fell on her while the shanties were being bulldozed.
