Almost 20 Years After 'Simi Link' Charge, 127 Acquitted

A court in Gujarat's Surat on Saturday acquitted 127 people arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly participating in a meeting organised in Surat in December 2001 as members of the banned outfit Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate AN Dave acquitted them. The police had charged them with being members of SIMI.
