With just a month to go for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, India has two new, but seasoned bureaucrats appointed as Election Commissioners. Former IAS officers Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Gyanesh Kumar have been chosen for the two vacant posts in the top panel of the Election Commission of India. Congress has hit out at the Centre over the law to choose Election Commissioners alleging it ignored the Supreme Court's recommendation to have the Chief Justice of India as part of the selection committee.
