As we spend more and more of our lives online, protecting our personal data from misuse has become more important than ever before. From Aadhaar data breaches to the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica controversy, from credit card fraud to identity theft, we are open to all sorts of cyber attacks. Now, India is a step closer to having a Data Protection Law, the draft Personal Data Protection Bill by the Justice Srikrishna Committee has been made public. After consultations and amendments, it will find its way to parliament where eventually it should become a law. Tonight on Left Right and Centre, we ask why is this bill so important for you, the digital Indian, who uses smart phones, apps and social media, and does almost everything online and does it do enough to protect you.
