Could Odisha Train Tragedy Have Been Averted?
A CAG 2022 report on 'Derailments in Indian Railways' tabled in parliament last year flagged severe shortfalls in rail safety. From failures in submitting or accepting inquiry reports after accidents to not utilizing dedicated railway fund, decline in funding track renewal and even inadequate staffing in safety operations. This report now raises several questions including the one on this massive tragedy and if indeed it could have been prevented?
