"India doesn't have this alliance mindset which is often what our Western partners like to think in terms of. Despite anything, India still believes in strategic autonomy and through strategic autonomy wishes to serve the interest of strategic partners. Simply because you sign an agreement you don't become hostage to your choices in the foreign policy," says Anil Trigunayat, former Indian diplomat to Jordan Libya and Malta.
