The political confrontation over the July 20 Jantar Mantar clashes intensified in Parliament as Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah respond to allegations of police brutality. Kharge said that if Shah failed to explain the police action, he should resign, adding that the Home Minister "cannot stay hidden forever." The BJP strongly condemned the remarks, accusing the Congress of threatening the Home Minister and adopting the language of "Urban Naxals." The ruling party also alleged that the Congress was resorting to intimidation after failing to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi electorally.
