Environmental activists, civil society groups, children and celebrities gathered to protest the proposed felling of mangroves for the Mumbai-Bhayandar Coastal Road project. Actors Dia Mirza and Richa Chadha joined demonstrators, urging the government to reconsider the plan and protect the city’s natural ecosystems. Protesters argued that mangroves act as Mumbai’s natural defence against floods and climate change, warning that compensatory afforestation cannot replace mature forests. Activists also raised concerns about the livelihoods of local fishing communities and said more than 20,000 citizens have already objected to the project while proposing alternative development plans.
