The National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognisance of reports alleging that a BJP worker was assaulted and stripped during her detention by police in Hubballi. The Commission has written to the Hubballi Police Commissioner, seeking a detailed report on the incident at the earliest. While the BJP has alleged misconduct during the arrest, the police have maintained that the woman resisted detention and that the incident has been misrepresented. The police commissioner has said any wrongdoing, if found, will be investigated. The case has triggered a political face-off between the BJP and the Indian National Congress, with investigations now under the Women’s Commission’s scrutiny.
