Indus Waters Treaty Standoff Deepens Between India, Pakistan
India has maintained that the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty remains suspended and will not operate in its current form. According to government sources, New Delhi will consider any renegotiation only if Pakistan takes credible and verifiable action against terrorism. India has also described the decades-old treaty as outdated, while rejecting Pakistan's parallel legal appeals under the treaty's dispute-resolution mechanism. Islamabad, meanwhile, continues to raise concerns over water security, even as India pushes ahead with plans to maximise the use of its share of the Indus river system.
