Tonight on The Buck Stops Here:

PM Modi's Pakistan gamble crash lands before take off?

First it was the BJP's U-turn on Pakistan, now it's Pakistan's U-turn on what it promised India. The Ufa meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif had raised possibilities of a breakthrough. But after Pakistan National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz's comments it's looking like a meltdown. Barely 72 hours after the two prime ministers agreed to find ways to expedite the 26/11 trial, Mr Aziz said Pakistan needs more evidence. Mr Aziz also said that PM Sharif had raised concerns on what he called India's "continuing support for insurgency in Balochistan". On The Buck Stops Here, we debate: has PM Modi's Pakistan gamble crash landed even before taking off? Is it with India-Pakistan ties that the more things change, the more they remain the same?

Modi government Congress on steroids, going after green activists in a public way: Amitav Ghosh to NDTV

"If you make it a rule that anyone who has anything critical to say about the nature of anything that's happening in this country, what do we have left of free speech," asked renowned author Amitav Ghosh saying the way Modi government has made the functioning of NGOs and green activists difficult is "very worrying". Calling Modi government "Congress on steroids" he said that one could see the continuities between UPA and NDA but the current government had gone after NGOs in a public way. Talking of free speech he said that in India the space for free speech is shrinking. "There are so many that we cannot articulate in India right now", he said. Mr Ghosh also speaks on the government's plans to promote yoga, Sanskrit, and why his vision for the future is "completely different" from that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
