Ishwar Singh, the head of the Sikh Society of Central Florida, has become the first American Sikh to speak and offer prayers at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida. For the first time, a Sikh American opened the day's proceedings at a political convention by heading the house in prayer. Mr Singh was invited by the Republican party to speak at the convention soon after the August 5 shooting at the Oak Creek Gurudwara in Wisconsin in which five worshippers were killed.
