The victim was identified as Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari, a 53-year-old Redemptorist priest and parish priest of the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Broadcast footage captured the moment the heavy crucifix fell from behind the altar, striking him as he led the ceremony. The incident triggered panic among worshippers, with cries for medical assistance heard in the aftermath. Despite emergency efforts, the priest later died from his injuries.
