A strikingly cordial meeting between US President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has highlighted a new tone between two politicians who have sharply disagreed on several issues. At their latest meeting in New York, Trump praised Mamdani’s “great potential” and said he hoped he would be a “great mayor.” Mamdani, while acknowledging continuing disagreements, particularly over immigration, said he would keep talking to the president and work with anyone who can deliver relief to New Yorkers. The two also discussed housing and the proposed Sunnyside Yard development.
