Foreign policy: Principles or pragmatism?

Along with much of the rest of the world, India this week congratulated Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi for her party's big win in the country's historic bypolls. But Aung San Suu Kyi was candid in her assessment of India's role. She said India needs to do more as the largest democracy in the world. And that really has been at the heart of a debate on India's foreign policy, from Burma to Tibet, India has often been ciriticised for compromising its principles.
