Attakalari Festival: Dancing to Connect

Every two years, Bengaluru is treated to the Attakalari India Biennial Dance Festival. The festival, which began in 2001, showcases contemporary dance and movement arts, and the theme this year was 'Dance Connect'. Over 200 artists from 20 countries converged in the city to perform and share. Bringing Chinese dancers to India was also a part of this year's festival theme. In a country with rich dance traditions, where classical dances often tell a story from mythology, do these more indefinable contemporary dance forms find an audience?
