Accepting that the terms of the Congress-Trinamool electoral alliance had been set by Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee, Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee said, “Hard ground reality meant this was the only route the Congress had to take to dislodge the Left.” Asked whether regional Congress leaders would work under Ms Banerjee as Chief Minister, if her party won the majority, he said “this decision would be taken later by the Central leadership in Delhi.
