Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president D K Shivakumar led a massive Congress protest, targeting the Centre over the National Herald case and alleged attempts to dilute the MGNREGA. Speaking to NDTV, Shivakumar said the protest was about “justice, truth, democracy and the Constitution,” accusing the BJP of misusing investigative agencies to harass Congress leaders. On MGNREGA, he alleged the Centre was trying to erase Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy by weakening and renaming the scheme, calling it one of India’s most popular employment programmes that directly benefits rural workers. The Congress, he asserted, will continue its agitation against what it terms political vendetta and attempts to undermine welfare schemes rooted in Gandhian ideals.
