Authorities carried out a late-night anti-encroachment drive near Turkman Gate after a long legal battle over government land adjoining a mosque. Officials clarified that the land on which the mosque stands, measuring under 0.02 acres, is legitimate. However, over 4,047 square yards of adjacent Ramlila Maidan land was found to be illegally encroached upon. Acting on directions upheld by the Delhi High Court, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi demolished unauthorised structures, including a banquet hall, a library, and a diagnostic centre, all constructed on government land. The clearance triggered tension in the area, prompting heavy police deployment, though officials say the situation is now under control.
